Close to downtown in Vancouver's beautiful Vanier Park, the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre opened in 1997 to inspire interest in earth science, space science and astronomy whilst providing a personal sense of ongoing discovery.
Built around the cornerstone of the H.R. MacMillan Planetarium and the Gordon MacMillan Southam Observatory, it features state-of-the-art interactive exhibits, shows and demonstrations including a full-motion simulator, demonstration theatre, hands-on exhibit gallery and a varied selection of multimedia shows on space and astronomy.
In the 'Virtual Voyages' full-motion simulator, visitors fly through space and time; blasting off to examine a comet, evading a meteor storm or saving the inhabitants of a late-21st century Martian colony. The Cosmic Courtyard hands-on exhibit gallery features the chance to morph into an alien, travel the solar system or touch a real moon rock, whilst GroundStation Canada's live demonstrations and multimedia shows present the latest innovations in space travel.
