The Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre is Canada's largest aquarium and one of the five largest in North America. Opened in 1956, it is internationally acclaimed for its innovative exhibition approach, with professional naturalists, biologists and volunteers working behind the scenes to support the incredible display of interpretative graphics.
The aquarium is home to more than 7,000 fish from over 300 species and nearly 30,000 invertebrates, including sea stars, jellyfish and octopuses. The Aquarium's collection of 23 species of amphibian and reptiles includes more than 125 snakes, frogs and newts and birds and mammals including whales, seals, sloths and scarlet ibises.
Dedicated to the conservation of aquatic life through direct action and research as well as education and display, the Aquarium funds projects world-wide and has an impressive history of successful rehabilitation programs for marine mammals and reptiles.
Regularly throughout the day, the Aquarium hosts shows with some of the world's most awesome and fascinating creatures such as sharks, killer whales, belugas and sea otters.
